That Kill Your Manly Erections

Have you found yourself saying... 

"Hmm, my "pride and joy" is not working properly these days"

More than usual? 

It could be down to what you are eating and your lifestyle. 

More men are suffering from a decreased sex drive, and some of the major culprits are as simple as what you are putting into your mouth. 

Foods can have a negatively affect your libido, especially as you age, so it is important to find those ingestible perpetrators and cut them down, or out, of your diet. 

Testosterone levels affect sexual desire, so anything that depletes these hormones in men can eventually zap your performance and desire for sex.  

We have all heard about aphrodisiac foods that enhance your libido. 

You could probably plan dinner around them: oysters, peppers, chocolate, pomegranates ...

And what about foods that kill your libido? 

Are there foods that make you say "not tonight, honey"  because your "pride and joy" is just not playing the game no more?

Oh yes, of course there are ...

1. Licorice

Who would have thought? 

Licorice contains phytoestrogens, which lower testosterone... and if you think that as a woman this does not affect you, think again... Testosterone is found in both sexes and is key to everyone's sexual desire. 

Fortunately, you have to eat a lot for the phytoestrogens to have a significant effect. 

Still, maybe that edible licorice girdle is not such a good idea after all?

Guess which foods monks have traditionally eaten in order to kill their earthly desires?  

2. Soy  

Do not worry about developing "man boobs" if you have small amounts of soy in your diet, although excess amounts of the legume derived products... soy milk, tofu and sauce... can drastically reduce the levels of testosterone in the blood and decrease your sex drive. 

Researchers found that men who consumed 120 mg of soy a day had a decrease in testosterone. 

And if you are working on becoming a dad, make sure you cut down or delete it entirely from your diet; a 2008 study in the journal Human Reproduction found that soy can lower a man's sperm count.

3. Another Testosterone Shrinker Is Mint. 

This is tragic news for those suffering from halitosis.

Mint can be bad for your libido if eaten in large quantities... mints and mint oils are flavoured with menthol which can reduce testosterone and, in general, "cool" off your body.

4. Tonic water

The main ingredient in tonic water, quinine, also lowers testosterone. 

So much for those summertime gin and tonics.

5. Corn Flakes

Before he created his breakfast cereal empire, John Harvey Kellogg was a Seventh Day Adventist, a doctor at a sanatorium, and an advocate of sexual abstinence. 

He created corn flakes to dampen carnal urges. 

This is also the same man who regularly prescribed circumcision to prevent masturbation ... like that worked.

6. Graham Crackers 

These were invented by Reverend Sylvester Graham for the same purpose. 

Mmm, dry and wholesome! In

fact, too much fiber in general will cause bloating and gas, two unhappy conditions that usually take the wind out of anyone's sexual sails... or at the very least, those of your sexual partner.

Any refined carbohydrates, such as those loaded into graham crackers, can wreak havoc on a man's sex drive. 

Excess refined carbohydrates like bleached white flour can lower testosterone levels. 

Sugars from refined carbs will not only make a man gain weight... they can raise the level of estrogen and deplete his testosterone levels. 

Too much sugar and fat can lead to blocked artery walls, and that can keep blood from flowing to your penis. .

7.  Alcohol 

Alcohol in moderation never hurt anyone's lust, and overindulging certainly can bring things down by the end of the night. 

Alcohol can take a toll on your sexual prowess causing erectile difficulties, trouble achieving orgasm and premature ejaculation.

Work on having two to three drinks maximum if you want to be ready to go later. 

8. Too Much Rich Food

Too much food in general is going to make you sleepy and not that interested... the general guidelines about being healthy are what you need to know about sexual desire.

Foods that contain added hormones or antibiotics, such as some red meats, are a huge sex offender by unbalancing a man's natural hormones when consumed in excess. 

For some, certain foods can even affect secretions like semen, sweat, urine and breath. 

Some smelly culprits are asparagus, garlic, certain spice and dairy products, which can all lead to some not-so-pleasant scents and tastes. 

Sweet citrus fruits like pineapple and flavours like vanilla, tend to make men and women tastier, although you may have to ingest a significant amount to notice. 

Overall, red meat has its pluses when consumed lean and in moderation. 

It is a great source of protein and zinc, which is key to muscle building and zapping body fat. 

Opt for leaner cuts with round or loin in the name or a classic filet mignon. 

Consumption of any food in excess leads to weight gain, which is the number one sex drive killer for any man... the worst food that a man can have for his sex drive is too much of it. 

9. Diet Accelerates The Aging Process. 

Anyone carrying extra weight from ages 35 to 60 is accelerating the aging process... anyone living a high stress, poor diet and no exercise lifestyle. 

Midsection increase is probably the number one reason for lost sex drive.

A good diet equals good sex, and there is no "magic pill" to replace eating healthy and keeping fit.

The healthier your lifestyle and personal diet is, the more healthy your sex drive will be.

10. Water, Estrogen And Its Negative Effects.

"Water Ange... you are kidding me??"

You may have heard the debate about whether Estrogen from "the pill" stays in our water systems and cannot be got rid of. 

There were some experiments on animals that showed their male organs turning to female organs! 

And this is a fact.

Whether you believe all the news and information is up to you. 

There are a growing number of people that stay away from tap water due to the high levels of Estrogen in it. 

You can go and spend a fortune on "bottled water" or you can do what I have done... invested in a "water filter system"... far more "cost effective" in the long run and does not "pollute" the environment with plastic bottles everywhere.

It is advisable for you to drink "filtered water" as tap water in developed countries may well reduce Testosterone levels.

11. Cigarettes

Stay away from any recreational drugs and especially cigarettes. 

None of them help you with your quest for higher Testosterone levels. 

You should aim for a healthy and efficient body and cigarettes take you totally the other way.

12. Sedentary Lifestyle Kills Off Testosterone Levels

Be active... a sedentary lifestyle tells your body that you do not want to be part of life and you do not want any Testosterone to help you get motivated and go out there and "live." 

When you tell your body this, are you surprised that your body is not interested in producing any Testosterone?

Exercise and go out there, just make sure you do not over do it.

13. Stress

Pay close attention to your stress levels and reduce them!

Stress is the great killer off Testosterone... Period! 

If you are stressed, you can kiss Testosterone production goodbye. 

Try and reduce your stress levels by Yoga and meditation... relax as much as you can... take a break. 

Do not live in the past... live in the now and create your future... do not let your mind worry about things that are out of your control. 

Take a good B-Vitamin complex to reduce stress levels.

14. Lack Of Sleep Kills Off Testosterone Levels

If you are the sort that gets by with 4 hours sleep, then chances are your testosterone levels are low. 

Sure, you may get away with it for a while, yet as you age, if you do not get sufficient sleep, you will find that your Testosterone levels will start dying off.

Some more of the reasons behind loss of Testosterone and their solutions are below...

15. Pornography

Pornography has been available in some shape or form for centuries, yet the recent advent of the internet has meant a totally new era with its own problems.

Male access to pornography via the internet has meant that more and more men prefer to spend time with their "computers" rather than their partners... for many men, the fantasy-figures they have ready access to are replacing real-life encounters with their partners.

Become aware of this as a problem and take steps to address it... lock your computer room and give the key to your wife or girlfriend... leave your laptop at work... "detach" yourself from your computer.

16. Media Portrayal 

The media is constantly bombarding you with images and descriptions of the ideal body, even the ideal way sex should be performed... some men begin to think less of their partners when compared to some popular females in the media, whether it is in looks or body.

Reading or watching acrobatic sex scenes or hearing about others performing all day sex sessions can put pressure on performance... a young college kid is almost certainly going to perform differently from a working male with a wife and several young kids. 

So do not get influenced... the women portrayed in the media are rare or at least not as "perfect" as your fantasy allows... they can still have imperfections, body hair, bad breath, fat, mood swings or whatever that turns you off! 

If you are with your partner voluntarily, then there must be things you like... love about them... appreciate those things and remember that media images are not real life.

Also remember that chances are your next door neighbour... colleague... buddy is not having all day sex sessions and that you are somehow not living up to expectations... live your life according to what makes "you" happy not what you think you should be doing.

17. Issues In Your Head.

This encompasses many things... it can be trauma from childhood, recent problems/stress at work/home or just thoughts and ideas that have somehow got into your head.

Some men start developing resentment towards their partners which gets worse and becomes an unbreakable circle... others have unresolved issues from past sexual or lack of experiences.

Seek help... Really! 

There is no shame in it. If you find that you cannot get a certain though out of your head then you need to seek help and resolve it... help can be in the form of books, hypnosis sessions or CDs... downloads, counselling or seeing a specialist... talking with your partner is also very important... if they love you, then they will understand... if they do not understand and possible they do not care for you as much as you think, then maybe that is the problem. 

You need to talk about it... do not hold it in.

18. Lifestyle And Its Effects

Lifestyle encompasses many things... you need to sit back and think what exactly can be affecting your libido... too little sleep, too much work, kids, money problems, not relaxing and not taking time out for yourself can be a big problem.

Make sure you get at least 8 hours sleep every night... if you cannot, make some time for "catch up" sleep at the end of the week.

Talk to your partner to help you with chores and kids. 

Time management is a skill which can be learnt.

19. Issues With Women

Many men are developing real "issues" with women... this is partly due to the change in women's roles in society and at work... women have better jobs and better pay and many women are on the same level as men or higher... some men have a real problem with this and they start getting an inferiority complex.

This is not the fault of women... it is your problem as a male and you need to deal with it... you are no less of a man if you come across a confident woman... you are no less of a man if your boss is a woman... you are no less of a man if your wife/partner demands more in the bedroom.

Find ways of dealing with your frustrations... do something different and notice the effects... change your defence mechanism... which probably arises from insecurity... to that of a more accommodating man... you will see great results... if you usually make sarcastic remakes to women, stop it... make complimentary remarks and notice the difference... ultimately you will feel better about yourself and this is critical for a boost in your libido.

20. Medications That Kill Libido

As well as recreational drugs discussed above, some medications can also have a negative effect on libido... typically these are anti depressants or blood pressure drugs.

Speak to your doctor... see what s/he can do for you... it may be that you may need some other medication to counteract the negative effects of other drugs.

21. Medical Conditions

Certain medical conditions can affect your libido.,, diabetes, obesity and thyroid problems are typical.

See your doctor... many of these conditions can be helped... do not suffer in silence... something "can" be done. 

22. Break The Pattern And Enjoy

Remember libido is something that needs nurturing... the old adage of "use it or lose it" applies here... learn to enjoy sex again... touch, talk, caress and enjoy... most importantly RELAX. Learn to relax and enjoy... anxiety, tension and stress are real libido killers.

Sexual function is a natural response controlled by your sub-conscious... do not "worry" about it... the more you worry about it, the more it will become a problem... in times of stress and anxiety, the body shuts down its vital processes, including those of a sexual nature! 

So you see, you need to relax to enjoy sex... learn Tantra sexual meditation, yoga, relaxation or anything that can help relieve anxiety.
